Edutainment with computers is good

Computers offer our children the next step in accelerated learning. You are aware that children hear, see and touch they remember better, for longer. The interactive, visual and universal capabilities that the computers offer children today reinvigorate the concept of learning as an exciting one.
Edutainment-based computer games are, of course, very different from computer games, the latter being purely for leisure. Having said that, some computer games do offer more cerebral opportunities for children than others. So, if you are looking to buy a computer game for your child, look for the ones that offer some sort of problem solving / strategy for children. These games can be beneficial in developing children’s logic and reasoning. In other words, in those computer games that aren’t just about shooting down objects and where the aims are more about thinking through the problems, there can be benefits for the brain. Where a child is being asked, for example, to design and build a whole city to support an imaginary nation, or set up an emergency contingency to sort out disaster area or make a place safe for people to live in, then there is lots of thinking involved. These sorts of games may be pleasurable but they are also helping children learn about something. Games like these fall into what I call the ‘slearner’ market, and they offer a very good cerebral workout.
